Dental Implants

Before the development of dental implants or mini implants, dentures were the only alternative to replacing missing teeth. Implants are synthetic structures placed in the area normally occupied by the tooth root, anchored to the jawbone to act as a foundation for artificial teeth or permanent bridges. In some cases, implants can be used to attach dentures. Designed to mimic the look and feel of natural teeth, implants are usually made of bio-compatible materials like metal or ceramic.

Ideal Candidates for Dental Implants

Not everyone is an ideal candidate for dental implants. For a successful implant, candidates must have proper bone density and a strong immune system. Diabetics and people with chronic bruxism (teeth clenching) are generally not favorable candidates. In all cases, dental implants require strict oral hygiene. Good candidates can expect high success rates with the procedure.

Types of Implants

Full Upper Replacement

The upper set of teeth is replaced with implants for complete restoration.

Full Lower Replacement

The lower set of teeth is replaced, usually with six implants near the front to anchor a denture—eliminating the need for denture adhesive.

Anterior Replacement

Implants replace the front teeth (incisors and cuspids) for a beautiful smile.

Posterior Replacement

Implants replace the bicuspids and molars (back teeth) for improved chewing function.

Single Tooth Replacement

Individual implant to replace a single missing tooth seamlessly.

The Implant Procedure

1

Missing tooth roots are replaced with implants, which are covered under the gum line.

2

A healing period of six months allows implants to integrate with the bone.

3

The implants are uncovered and extensions (abutments) are attached.

4

Replacement teeth are affixed to the implants and extensions for a complete restoration.

Dental Crowns

Crowns are synthetic caps, usually made of porcelain or zirconia, placed on top of a tooth. They are typically used to restore a tooth's function and appearance following restorative procedures such as root canals. When decay has become so advanced that large portions of the tooth must be removed, crowns restore the tooth's structure and strength.

Cosmetic Restoration Fix discolored or stained teeth

The Crown Procedure

Teeth must usually be reduced in size to accommodate a crown. A cast is made of the existing tooth and an impression is sent to a special lab, which manufactures a custom-designed crown. In some cases, a temporary crown is applied until the permanent crown is ready. Permanent crowns are then cemented securely in place for long-lasting results.

Dental Veneers

In just two or three dental visits, veneers can reverse years of stains caused by foods, caffeine, and tobacco use. These special thin laminates can also correct discolored, worn down, cracked, and chipped teeth, as well as close unsightly gaps between teeth. Porcelain veneers (composite veneers) typically last longer because they are bonded directly to the tooth.

Stain Correction

Reverse years of discoloration from coffee, tea, wine, and tobacco for a brilliantly white smile.

Chip & Crack Repair

Restore the appearance of worn, chipped, or cracked teeth with seamless coverage.

Gap Closure

Close unsightly gaps between teeth without the need for orthodontic treatment.

The Veneer Procedure

An impression of the tooth is taken and a veneer is molded by a lab technician. Because veneers require a small amount of enamel to be removed, they are permanent and non-reversible. The process involves buffing the tooth, removing an extremely thin layer to allow for the veneer's thickness, taking an impression, and finally bonding the veneer to the tooth with special cement. A special light completes the curing process, followed by final polishing.
